Cascading Reels: How One Spin Becomes Several

In a cascading game, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into the gaps. A single paid spin can therefore produce a chain of wins.

The basic loop

  1. The spin lands and any wins are paid.
  2. The symbols that formed those wins are removed.
  3. Remaining symbols drop down, and new ones fall in from above.
  4. The new arrangement is checked for wins. If there are any, the loop repeats.

The sequence ends when a drop produces no win. Different studios call this cascading, tumbling or avalanche reels. The mechanic is the same.

What it changes

Cascades and pay-anywhere grids

Cascading is most often combined with cluster or pay-anywhere rules, described in paylines, ways and clusters. With no fixed lines, any group of matching symbols can vanish, which keeps the chain going more often.

A common misreading

A long chain feels like momentum, as if the game has become "hot". It has not. Each drop fills the gaps with new random symbols, and the chance that the next drop wins is set by the game's mathematics, not by the length of the chain so far.

Seeing it step by step

Guides aimed at beginners are useful here because they slow the sequence down. One such walk-through in Traditional Chinese is this beginner's guide for Tongbo players (通博娛樂城), which follows ATG's Storm of Seth from registration to withdrawal.
